Elsewhere (2017)

(Praise X 4)

This is Maeve’s fourth collection, and charts a worldwide journey in poetry, haiku and haibun, a hybrid form which combines prose and haiku. Inspired by familiar European cities, and by more exotic locations ranging from South America to the Indian sub-continent, O’Sullivan conveys their colour, detail and impact, engaging in a lyrical cartography. You are invited to follow this route and explore the question of whether ‘elsewhere’ merely means being in a different geographical location.

  1. Shirley Bell, The Blue Nib

The poet is excellent at capturing all the senses stimulated by place and pilgrimage.

Elsewhere is a richly satisfying book: great ingredients, beautifully distilled, exceptionally well-matured. Enjoy. It tingles right through. It’s all pleasure.

  3. Dave Read, Presence

Diverse in both theme and poetic form, honest and humorous, and vast as the expanse of her travels, Elsewhere is a book to be enjoyed by readers of haiku and poetry alike.

  4. Sandra Simpson, Breath blog

Armchair travellers, those who have visited these places and those longing to get out and explore will enjoy O’Sullivan’s genuine and honest approach.
